Welcome to the Prefontaine Classic

May 31 & June 1 2013 - Eugene, Oregon

The meeting is named for the legendary Steve Prefontaine, America ’s greatest distance runner at the time of his death in 1975 at age 24. Pre’s remarkable life was the subject of an award-winning documentary, “Fire On The Track”, and two major motion pictures, “Prefontaine”, released by Disney in January 1997 (two “thumbs up” from Siskel & Ebert), and “Without Limits”, released by Warner Bros. in September 1998 (named as one of the  Top 10 films of 1998 by Time magazine and the New York Times.)

The 2013 meeting on Saturday, June 1, will be the 39th annual edition, with
NIKE providing title sponsorship for 30 consecutive years.

Attendance at the meeting, held each year at historic Hayward Field in Eugene , Oregon , has traditionally been the largest in the United States , with crowds of over 12,000.  The past 15 Pre Classics have been standing-room-only, and another sell-out is anticipated this year.
